Parrot Gallery
Parrot Gallery is a project of artists and musicians
worshiping at Community Mennonite Church of Lancaster. Art exhibits are open
for downtown Lancaster
First Fridays,
and regular gallery talks are scheduled with each
featured artist.
About the Show
Artist and CMCL attender, Naomi Paine has been a mail carrier in the Lancaster area since 2007.
Pounding the
pavement gives her much time to ponder themes found in her exhibit, “ORIGINS:
Moving Toward Home.” She writes, “In recent years, I’ve found myself on a quest
to discover more about my origins, both human and divine. I want to know who I
am, where I come from, and where I am going. My 30-day retreat at Herrbrook
Farm Retreat in 2003 was a watershed for me in this regard. The artwork that
came out of this transformative experience is a window on some of my
discoveries.”
Naomi’s
exhibit includes poetry, paintings and sculptures created during and following
that retreat.
About the Artist
Naomi Paine, a
1987 Messiah College art graduate who has been attending CMCL the past year,
will be the featured Parrot Gallery artist for February and March. Her opening
reception will be on First Friday, February 5, 5:30–8:30 p.m. Naomi is
currently working on a master’s degree in holistic spirituality at Chestnut
Hill College, Philadelphia, PA, while she continues her full-time work with the
US Postal Service as a mail carrier in the Lancaster area.
She spent 17
years, first in short-term missions and then in administration, with Eastern
Mennonite Missions. In 2005, ready for change, she worked a few years in
accounts payable at an electrical contracting company, before she was hired in
2007 as a mail carrier.
